11 Celebs Who Still Take Public Transportation
As movie-lovers and music enthusiasts, it’s easy to idolize the stars that grace the screen and stages we look up to. But the fact is, many of the people we listen to on our apps and pay hundreds to see, are just like us. And sometimes, public transportation is the much faster route — especially considering city traffic jams and never ending construction. Keep reading to find out 11 celebs who still take public transportation.
Some big-name celebs have graced trains and buses, like Beyonce, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, and Rihanna. For the sake of this list, however, we’ve narrowed down our list to celebrities who take the subway for practicality, rather than for show. These show-stoppers aren’t looking for attention or trying to cause a scene – they’re going about their business, trying to get from Point A to Point B, sans camera crew and bodyguards.
Here are 11 celebs who, despite their fame and stardom and even healthy bank accounts, still prefer public transportation over private cars from time to time.
1.) Jake Gyllenhaal
Jake Gyllenhaal could easily blend in with New York’s Williamsburg neighborhood hipsters, but for the most part, he’s not fooling anyone. Ironically, there’s a running joke that the actor regularly puts commuter to sleep, as he’s usually photographed standing or sitting next to a sleeping New Yorker.
2.) Claire Danes
When she’s not running rampant in Showtime’s Homeland, Claire Danes is sweating up a storm on the NYC platform during hot summer days, just like everyone else.
3.) Hugh Jackman
From Melbourne to NYC, this X-Men star isn’t afraid to tame it down and catch a train, and there aren’t shades big enough to hide the muscles and obvious facade. He’s been caught riding trains quite a few times.
4.) Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves is known for his subway preference, and has been spotted several times riding the train. An interesting bit about this Matrix star s is that he doesn’t try to hide it. No oversized shades or suspiciously low caps. He does what the rest of us do: gives up his seat for women, and opens up the daily paper for a read. When he was caught on video giving his seat up for a standing woman, his act of kindness went viral.
5.) Naomi Watts
Naomi Watts has been spotted numerous times riding along the subway in London and New York with her children in hand. In fact, she doesn’t seem to be much of a fan of driving, and she’s also been spotted riding her vintage bicycle around the city and taking part in weekend food market festivities.
6.) Zoe Saldana
Zoe Saldana, star of Avatar and a handful of others, has been seen riding the subway a handful of times. Even more ironic, Saldana appeared on an episode of Sesame Street to discuss different modes of transportation with Elmo. This Queens native even admitted to Women’s Health that she’d had sex on an NYC train before. Yikes.
7.) Madonna
This iconic singer loves to take the subway from time to time, and even though she knows native New Yorkers tend to notice, she doesn’t let it phase her. It isn’t uncommon for her to be photographed running errands around the city as she hops from train to train.
8.) Michael Sheen/Rachel McAdams
Couples ride the subway, too. Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen have been seen cozying up on New York subways, as well as on the Toronto subway, where she resides.
9.) Owen Wilson
They buy their own tickets, too. And apparently, celebrities aren’t above accepting the smaller free things, too. Wilson stopped at Subway and tweeted shortly thereafter, “S/o to the girl at Subway who gave me free cookies.”
10.) Anderson Cooper
It’s only natural to take the subway in your own city when your show is amidst its flashy lights, although he stand out just like them.
11.) Adrien Grenier
Adrien Grenier, the Entourage celeb, is another New York native that’s been spotted on the city’s trains. And apparently, he’s happy about it. He told New York Magazine, “I’m so happy to be back in New York right now. I just bought a place in Clinton Hill. I’ve been on the West Coast for months, so being able to actually walk places and bump into people is great.”
