Long known as a tax haven for the rich, Monaco may be a tiny, tiny country but it’s also incredibly wealthy. Where to stay
Monaco has many luxurious hotels, with the most famous being Hotel de Paris, right opposite the Monte Carlo Casino. This opulent 5-star hotel is home to Le Louis XV – a restaurant by famous chef Alain Ducasse that boasts not one but three Michelin stars. The hotel is certainly the most awe-inspiring in Monaco, due to its low relief sculptures, marble colonnades and crystal chandeliers. Alternatively if you fancy staying somewhere a bit more modern with ocean views, the Fairmont is incredibly popular and sits right on the famous “hairpin turn” of the Grand Prix track. The best thing about this prestigious hotel is its 7th floor swimming pool, where you’ll find a branch of the exclusive and world-renowned Nikki Beach Club.
What to see and do
If you want to live the James Bond lifestyle then you’d best get dressed in your finest and head to the Monte Carlo Casino to try your hand at a game of roulette. Entry to the lobby is free, then there’s an entrance fee of €17 to the main gambling room. The real gambling, however, goes on in the private rooms, which you need to buy your way into.
During the summer the weather can get extremely hot, so during the daytime you’ll probably sunning yourself by the pool at Nikki Beach listening to the world’s top DJs. Alternatively you can head to Larvotto Beach, where you can soak up the sun’s rays then grab a spot of lunch at swanky beachfront venue La Note Bleue.
Where to eat and drink
Once the sun’s gone down Buddha Bar is a great location for dinner and drinks. This huge Asian-themed restaurant is located on the site of Monte Carlo’s old cabaret, boasting a huge, sweeping space with high ceilings, oak paneling, sculptures and lavish décor.
After dinner many of Monaco’s jet setters head to Jimmy’z – a nightclub that dates back to the 1970’s. It’s here that VIP’s sip champagne while listening to electronic dance music from some of the world’s hottest DJ’s. The club was revamped in 2017 to feature a more spacious setup with a floating Summer Bar on a Japanese lagoon and open-air tables boasting a view of the dance floor. If you want to enjoy the luxury life – this is the place to go.
There’s no doubt that Monaco is an incredibly fun destination for a luxury vacation and with everything so close together, it’s easy to get around. Boasting glamorous casinos, Michelin-starred restaurants and ritzy hotels, it’s definitely the place to see and be seen. Don’t forget the essentials when packing for this trip!
